Ruby is the founder of Rex a UX research and strategic design consulting firm. Her previous roles include UX research at Grab, strategic design at Boston Consulting Group and management consulting at Nous Group. Throughout her career Ruby has focused on making organisations more customer-centric and increasing the influence of design. She has spoken at design and UX conferences in 5 countries.

This talk challenges the ‘defaults’ that inform the way we build products and technologies. Drawing on the work of Caroline Criado-Perez, author of Invisible Women, I apply these frameworks to  other ‘defaults’ that inform the way technologies are created such as northern hemisphere default and english language defaults.  Throughout this talk I will explore technologies such as AI and voice assistants and unpack the ways in which choices at the product level, UX level and UI level may hamper our ability to build truly inclusive products.
